Job Description
Purpose of Position:
Under supervision, performs specialized activities to assist patients to restore or improve physical abilities, promote behavioral changes, adapt surroundings, and teach new skills. Acts in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations and occupational therapy standards of care; performs related work.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Assists in the evaluation of the patient's needs and performance of activities of daily living.
May administer Range of Motion tests.
Instructs assigned patients in activities of daily living, such as washing, dressing, eating and handling of such assistive devices, such as braces and wheelchairs.
Instructs patients on and assists patients in carrying out therapeutic activities and exercises to improve their physical and mental well-being.
Assists in setting up programs for the patient's caregivers in the home setting.
May provide teaching, guidance and direction to health professionals on the proper standards of occupational therapy practice.
Maintains equipment and requisitions supplies. 8. Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Valid license and current registration to practice as an Occupational Therapist issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
