JOB SUMMARY Plans, promotes, coordinates, and evaluates programs designed to provide equal or equivalent opportunities for individuals with permanent disabilities to participate in youth and adult recreation programs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Therapeutic Recreation, Parks & Recreation, Adaptive or Special Education, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience. For Aquatics position: a minimum of 2 (two) year's aquatic experience and a minimum of 2 (two) years' experience working with people with intellectual, physical or developmental disabilities, preferably in a recreation setting. Must be CPR/AED certified, and SSE or WSI certified. (Must be obtained within 3 (three) months of hire if not current). For Sports and Recreation: A minimum of 4(four) years of experience working with people with intellectual, physical or developmental disabilities in a recreation setting. May also be licensed to practice therapeutic recreation in the state of Utah as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or Masters Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS or MTRS) and/or possess a National Council for Therapeutic Certification (NCTRC). If licensed or with a master's degree, 2 (two) years of experience may be reduced from the minimum 4 years required. A valid Driver's License issued by the State of Utah is required to operate a vehicle at the time of hire. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive. Plans, promotes, coordinates, and supervises youth and adult recreation and leisure-time programs for individuals with permanent disabilities. Trains recreation merit and part-time staff who are not direct reports, on adaptive aquatics, adaptive recreation and/or Paralympic programming. Educates staff at all levels on adaptive resources and ADA. Acts in the capacity of ADA/504 Liaison for Parks and Recreation, managing, facilitating requests for reasonable accommodations to rules, policies, or practices and the provision of auxiliary aids and services. Identifies the needs and feasibility of current and future programs. Reviews and evaluates assigned programs, services, and events. Prepares budget documentation for review and approval. Recommends and/or makes purchases of program goods and services. Maintains and controls inventory. Participates in hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and terminating subordinate employees. Coordinates the use of facilities and equipment and assists in identifying and coordinating maintenance and repair. Creates partnerships and coordinates with internal and external organizations and agencies to utilize joint programming opportunities. This may include coordination with National Governing Boards (USABA, NWBA, USA Archery, etc..) of Paralympic sports to provide training, competitions and tournaments at different competition levels, following credentialing guidelines to have events sanctioned and insured. Creates collaborations or sharing of resources to improve service delivery to patrons. Participates in job-related committees, sub-committees, and professional development activities. Provides effective customer service. Reconciles program and patron complaints and respond to sensitive issues with general guidance from supervisor. Manages multiple programs at multiple locations simultaneously.
