Under the direction of the physical therapy leadership and Sports PT residency director, the sports PT resident will develop knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet the needs of the athletic community. The resident will work closely with mentor/s to provide outpatient care to athletes of all ages in our sports specialty clinics. The resident will also work directly with athletes in sports venue, training room, local schools, and community event settings. The resident will be provided didactic education in line with the requirements of the Description of Residency Practice to successfully prepare for the Sports Physical Therapy Clinical Specialist Exam. The resident will be required to maintain passing grades on required materials as laid out in the Sports PT Residency Handbook. The resident will be capable of applying ongoing current concepts in research to patient care.

What you will do
  • Complete 1800-hour residency program consistent of 1500 Care Clinical Hours and 300 didactic hours.
  • Successfully complete RHS Sports Residency Curriculum as outlined from American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education program.
  • Provide evidence-based care vase using established evidence-based practices.
  • Partricipate in mentorship and development activities.

Qualifications

Education
  • Doctoral Degree, Graduate from an accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. (Required)

Experience
  • 1 year Sports Physical Therapy Experience (Preferred)
  • 1 year Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) Experience (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications
  • License Physical Therapy (PT) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire(Required) or
  • Physical Therapist - PT Compact Privilege Upon Hire(Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days(Required)
  • First Aid - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days(Required)
  • Athletic Trainer (ATC) - Board of Certification Inc (BOC) Emergency Response for the Athlete (ERA) or Certified Athletic Training degree Upon Hire(Required)
