Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) - Schertz / Northeast San Antonio
The Role:
Health by Design is currently seeking a full-time Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to work in our beautiful, state-of-the-art, out-patient wellness center. Located in Schertz/Northeast San Antonio, this clinic provides primary care services to retired First Responders and their dependents. Our "Value-based Care" model allows the PTA to work in a low-volume, one-on-one with a patient every 45 minutes. This individual will work closely with our full-time Physical Therapist, promoting and maintaining patient health by providing physical therapy and rehabilitation services. Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. No nights, no weekends and the clinic is closed over the lunch hour to give you the opportunity to rest, relax or run errands. Wonderful work/life balance! What You'll Do:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) will primarily be responsible for direct patient care for patients referred to physical therapy.
- Evaluates abnormal conditions by reviewing physical therapist's interpretations of patient evaluations and test results.
- Documents treatment and outcomes in EHR.
- Administers therapeutic procedures by providing exercises and guiding patients through physical activities, including ambulatory functional tasks and daily-living activities.
- Helps patients in using supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
- Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens and promoting wellness and health maintenance.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, regulations, and adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Assists with review of referrals and scheduling of patients.
What You'll Bring
- Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree for Physical Therapy Assistant from an accredited school.
- Pass the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy
- Current license issued by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners (TBPTE)
- CPR/BLS (will provide certification as needed)
- A strong sense of empathy and compassionate outlook on physical therapy and the ability to motivate patients to complete their exercises
- Detail oriented; pays close attention to detail to assess each patient's needs and progression, and to document treatment sessions
- Physical stamina; physically strong and have the stamina to lift patients and help them move. Able to spend most of their day on their feet.
- Effective communication skills; able to listen carefully to physical therapist's instructions and relay them to patients. Able to effectively explain treatment plans to patients.
- Able to build rapport with patients, and/or families
- Patience and a positive attitude; able to be patient as each patient has different strength levels and may have to overcome mental barriers. A positive attitude can help patients work harder and believe they can get better.
