The Role
Under general direction, the Creative Arts Therapist assists a specific group of individuals in enhancing their mental, emotional and physical health. They utilize various artistic techniques to improve communication, facilitate expression of feelings, enhance coordination, and boost cognitive and social abilities. They work with clients who experience emotional issues, learning difficulties and physical impairments. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.
Responsibilities
Interviews clients and collaborates with staff and other health experts to understand clients' psychotherapeutic needs.
Develops a creative arts treatment process for clients.
Develop activities for various creative arts groups.
Evaluate through observation the responses of clients to assigned therapies.
Provides a safe, non-judgmental, and empowering environment to clients and staff.
Works collaboratively with staff and community agencies to facilitate the delivery of service.
Administers evaluations and assessments and completes safety and goal plans with clients.
Maintains case records for individual and group clients in accordance with Agency policies.
Qualifications
Master's Degree in Creative Art Therapy
NYS LCAT licensure
At least two years of prior experience in a comparable setting working with substance use disorders/mental illness clients.
Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
