Music therapists are a part of the Hope Therapeutic Services interdisciplinary team, working to support individuals with disabilities across the lifespan. The role involves designing and delivering music-based interventions to improve communication, social skills, sensory integration, emotional regulation, and overall quality of life for the individuals served. Music Therapists are creative, collaborative and committed to using evidence-based approaches to help individuals thrive through the power of music.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Conduct individualized music therapy assessments to determine client needs and strengths
- Develop and implement goal-oriented music therapy sessions for children and adults with disabilities
- Use music activities such as singing, instrument playing, movement, songwriting, and listening to address therapeutic goals, adapting these sessions based on age, developmental level, sensory profile, and communication style
- Collaborate closely with other professionals to an ensure an integrated approach to care
- Provide documentation including treatment plans, session notes, progress reports and client outcome data in accordance with organizational and funding/payer requirements.
- Involve families and caregivers in the therapeutic process when appropriate, providing education and support on how to integrate music therapy into other settings or into the individual's daily routines
- Maintain a safe, engaging, and supportive environment during all sessions
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development
- Performs all other duties as required or assigned
- Assumes the responsibility of a mandated reporter concerning incidents of alleged abuse and neglect, as outlined by state guidelines and in accordance with the organization’s policies
- Attends Hope meetings and events as required
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in music therapy from an AMTA- approved program; master's degree preferred
- Current and active credentialing as a Board-Certified Music Therapist
- Clinic-based experience preferred
- Experience with augmentative or alternative communication devices, sensory integration and behavioral support strategies
- Employee must be able to work independently
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication.
- Employee must be able to work collaboratively within their department, but also across other departments
- Demonstrates problem solving and flexibility in difficult situations and reliably use good judgement to solve problems; Employee will work swiftly to solve any arising issues and bring any significant issues to the attention of their supervisor or other leadership promptly
- Employee must be organized, punctual, and able to meet goals and deadlines
- Employee must be able to demonstrate behavior in alignment with the organization’s mission and values

- Maintain and seek any credentials necessary for position and discipline

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed in an indoor office environment/clinic or in the community at various agencies and/or schools/clinics; works very near others, within a few feet or less; involves close contact with individuals or clients; potential exposure to loud sounds and high noise levels intermittently. The work may include significant usage of a motor vehicle as well as maintenance of an active, state-approved driver’s license; Work may require flexible hours, outside of normal business hours.Hope is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
