About this Job
The mission of Pinecrest Supports and Services Center is to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reach treatment goals and to return to more integrated community living settings. Pinecrest Supports and Services Center specializes in the treatment of people with comorbid intellectual and developmental disabilities and complex medical, behavioral, and psychiatric support needs.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to manage a therapeutic recreational program for special populations. This role plays a vital part in enhancing the quality of life and well-being of participants through purposeful and inclusive recreation services.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience as a teacher, instructor, or counselor in a recreational program plus four years of experience in recreation therapy; OR
A bachelor's degree in a rehabilitation, recreation, or therapy field, a physical education field, or psychology plus four years of experience in recreation therapy; OR
Possession of certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist in accordance with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification plus four years of experience in recreation therapy; OR
An advanced degree in a rehabilitation, recreation, or therapy field, a physical education field, or psychology plus three years of experience in recreation therapy.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
As a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist 4, you will be instrumental in managing a therapeutic recreation program. In this role, you will:
Manage, supervise, and direct the work of subordinate Therapeutic Recreation Specialists in the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation of program-based recreation activities.
Manage recreational events for PSSC that include weekly activities at the park, gym, or other recreational areas on grounds.
Plan and coordinate seasonal events such as parades, pageants, dances, festivals, and other activities to provide a variety of recreational activities that promotes community participation for the individuals supported by PSSC.
Coordinate participation in off-campus activities based on individuals' choice.
Coordinate and facilitate the design and development of techniques, methods, and special equipment to enable individuals to complete preferred recreation activities and specific job duties.
Serve as PSSC coordinator for Special Olympics to promote participation in local and regional events.
Host recreational events at PSSC to afford individuals the opportunity to compete with other facilities in sporting events for special needs population.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position will be filled by Detail to Special Duty. Preference may be given to permanent classified employees of Pinecrest Supports and Services Center.
Job Location: Recreation Department
Shift: 7:30AM - 4:00PM Pass Days: Sat. & Sun.
