Wheelchair-Rehab Services Manager

Job Description:

Directs, organizes and plans the timely and efficient sales, fitting, assembly, repair and distribution of custom wheelchairs, seating systems, power wheelchairs, scooters, and all other rehab equipment. Responsible to the HME director for the financial and operational success of the department. Develops and facilitates seating and positioning clinics in conjunction with specialist treatment team members including Physical Therapist, Rehabilitation Technology Suppliers, Occupational Therapist, and Wheelchair assembly, repair and fabrication technicians.

 Schedule : Monday - Friday Hours : 8:30am - 5:00pm

Available to manage operations outside of working hours on an as needed basis, otherwise no nights/weekends/holidays

1. Monitors department's HME financial performance on a regular basis to ensure its operations remain within budgeted guidelines. Ensures its long-term financial viability by participating in capital and operating budget planning.
2. Coaches and mentors staff for optimal performance to ensure professionalism. Recruits, selects and promotes staff according to Intermountain policy. Trains and orients staff. Conducts staff meetings. Evaluates staff performance. Maintains appropriate personnel files and documentation. Provides timely and appropriate feedback and resolution.
3. Demonstrates exceptional communication skills with clients, staff and associates. Effectively communicates changes that impact patients and staff. Educates and trains employees regarding the changing landscape of issues affecting Homecare's ability to deliver Wheelchair Rehab services. Fosters teamwork, healthy morale and promotes orderly flow of information within the organization.
4. Writes proposals including demographics, insurance codes, and specifications for wheelchair and billing information for wheelchairs and related services.
5. Coordinates ordering, assembly, delivery and repairs of chairs and equipment. Maintains accurate parts inventories. Oversees tracking of equipment through warehouse inventories, deliveries, exchanges and preventative maintenance schedules.
6. Works with referral source to ensure all necessary information is obtained for appropriate reimbursement. Ensures the documentation necessary for preauthorization of equipment is complete, accurate and timely for correct reimbursement. Collects and reviews all documentation and resolves discrepancies with paperwork. Coordinates with Seating Specialist to secure Letters of Medical Necessity (LMN) and Certificates of Medical Necessity (CMN) for equipment and related services to third party payers.
7. Coordinates patient assessment and evaluations with physician and therapist to ensure proper equipment, fittings and modifications are obtained to meet the medical needs of the patient as prescribed.
8. Follows-up with patient and/or parent to determine if changes in equipment are required due to changes in the patient?s condition. Provides ongoing training, adjustments and reassurance as required to ensure customer satisfaction and transition to independence.
9. Provides in-services education to patients, physicians, therapists, nurses and home care staff on all equipment use, features and cost. Facilitates specialized services for wheelchair seating and positioning clinics. Oversees the home accessibility evaluation. Provides referrals to other services - therapies, vehicle modification, and vocational rehabilitation. Promotes functional independence.
10. Maintains specific knowledge of custom wheelchair and rehabilitation equipment. Acts as a Wheelchair Services liaison for Intermountain facilities.
11. Adds organizational and personal value through self-responsibility, accountability and professional development. Achieves all applicable goals and deadlines.
12. Demonstrates self-directed learning to meet own professional/personal development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college. Degree will be verified.
  • Certified through RESNA in seating and positioning as an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP).
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Two years rehab experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a department's financial performance to ensure its operations remain within budgeted guidelines.
  • In-depth understanding of the HICPIC, ICD9 coding system.
  • A demonstrated extensive understanding of all rehab equipment.
  • A demonstrated extensive understanding of disabilities and debilitating diseases.
  • Extensive understanding of wheelchair seating principles.
  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge to direct, organize and plan the timely and efficient fitting, assembly, repair and distribution of custom wheelchairs and seating systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of experience in the provision of medical equipment and supplies.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$44.33 - $68.42
