Prototypes is one of the nation’s leading behavioral healthcare providers and is a “prototype” for such organizations. Prototypes Women's Center in Pomona is a 180-bed residential facility tailored specifically to women, including those who wish to involve their children in their journey to recovery. Our program aims to assist women in maintaining their progress in overcoming co-occurring disorders through a wide range of supportive services. Children can foster a secure attachment with their mothers in a secure setting, while also accessing mental health support and educational assistance. Our interdisciplinary team of professionals provides comprehensive treatment for substance use disorders and mental health, parenting, educational, and life skills courses. Treatment can range from 60 days to 6 months.

The Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Specialist is either a registered/certified substance use disorder counselor or a qualified health educator with a minimum of one year of experience in delivering SRH services. Their role involves coordinating SRH services, collaborating closely with counselors and therapists to provide personalized care to clients in their reproductive health choices. The SRH Specialist facilitates client access to a wide range of SRH services, supports a seamless continuum of integrated care, and helps connect clients with community partners and additional services as needed.

This is a part-time, union position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Treatment Setting:

  • Interact regularly with pregnant or parenting women (PPW) in treatment to integrate SRH education with their SUD treatment needs.
  • Support clients through intake, assessment, and health questionnaire processes.
  • Provide a basic overview of SRH, explore pregnancy intentions, and address how SUD affects pregnancy preparation, pregnancy itself, and the postpartum period.
  • Utilize trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and evidence-based practices to support clients effectively.
  • Use motivational interviewing techniques to engage and encourage parents to become active participants in their sexual and reproductive health, to understand the importance of SUD treatment and the intersection of sexual and reproductive health needs and SUD treatment and facilitate behavioral change.
  • Assist individuals in navigating and linking physical and mental health services, as well as social service systems.
  • Establish referral networks for family planning and prenatal care.
  • Guide PPW through their treatment plans, deliver individual and group SUD services.
  • Deliver services in various settings (outpatient, residential, field) based on client needs. Minimum of 1 individual session per week for residential and intensive outpatient and 1 per week for outpatient.
  • Oversee the treatment of clients on their caseload.
  • Monitor client progress towards treatment goals and provide input into treatment plans.

Clinical Collaboration:

  • Act as a liaison between PPW treatment providers and external clinics to ensure seamless communication and coordination of care.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team (Case Manager, Therapist, Medical, Psychiatrist, etc.) to ensure appropriate referrals and comprehensive care.
  • Maintain frequent communication through consultations, clinical team meetings, case conferences, and plan development meetings.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain compliance with due dates for all clinical documentation.
  • Complete progress notes within 72 hours of service delivery.
  • Meet expected client care hours and productivity expectations.
  • Documentation must be maintained in compliance with agency policy and procedures, HIPAA, 42-CFR, and other standards to satisfy internal and external evaluating requirements.
  • Complete all assigned URCs in a timely manner.
  • Maintain full compliance with registration or certification requirements.

Administrative Duties:

  • Attend and actively participate in supervision.
  • Actively participate in agency and team meetings.
  • Complete all assigned training in a timely manner.
  • Arrange work schedule in accordance with the agency’s needs.
  • Read emails daily and respond when appropriate.

And perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Certification, or Licensure

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or other related field preferred.
  • Registration or Certification as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor from an accredited California agency (CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP).
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and access to registered and insured transportation.

Experience

  • At least one year of experience delivering SRH services.
  • Experience delivering evidence-based practices.
