SUMMARY: The Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) will utilize evidence-based techniques to help students build
foundational reading and writing skills. This itinerant position will provide explicit, systematic, and intensive
intervention to students who exhibit significant dyslexic profiles and/or related learning differences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Travel to various Adams 12 Schools to provide intensive interventions to help students develop strong
foundational skills in phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and orthography.
? Use data collection techniques to guide understanding of student growth and to guide development of
literacy goals and report progress (may include IEP goals).
? Demonstrated knowledge of dyslexia-specific instructional strategies and interventions.
? Work with other educators and the students team to provide comprehensive support to students with
dyslexia and related different learning abilities.
? Provide consultation to building providers regarding best practices in assessment and intervention for
students with complex literacy needs.
? Demonstrate effective communication with a students school team and parents.
? Support Professional Learning for adults.
? Proven ability to collaborate across roles (i.e. special education, general education, administration, and
external advocates) as well as with the District Literacy Team and Student Support Services Leadership.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
? Bachelors degree or higher.
? Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
? Certified special educator or willingness to obtain special education certification.
? Certified Academic Language Therapist or in the process of becoming certified.
? Criminal background check required for hire.
? Must possess, or be able to obtain from, or be in process with, the Colorado Department of Education (CDE)
for a valid Colorado Educator License within 30 days of hire.
? Must possess or have the ability to obtain the required license and endorsement.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
? Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, District policies, building and department
procedures.
? Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits,
utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
? Ability to engage in effective communication, collaboration, and teamwork with individuals from diverse
backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives, while demonstrating respect and appreciation for their differences.
? Ability to stay current with district policy, standards and training in the areas of data quality, data privacy, and
cybersecurity with respect to student and staff data, and related information.
? Ability to provide adult professional learning.
SALARY INFORMATION (FOR EXTERNAL CANDIDATES):
All salary placement on our Certified Salary schedule ( is dependent on the employees education and/or work experience.
Special programs teachers of students with significant support needs, structured learning services or affective needs, audiologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school nurses, school psychologists, school social workers, and speech language pathologists shall receive experience credit for each full year of previous experience and are not limited to ten (10) years as described in Appendix A, Item 3.
Additionally, one (1) step for each full year, as described in this Appendix, of service in the district as a contracted certified, classified, in-building substitute, and/or administrative employee for educators beginning a new certified contract or returning to a certified contract.

13.2.5 Voluntary transfers that occur fifteen working days before the start of the school year and until the end of the school year shall happen once the position being vacated has been filled, for a duration of no more than four weeks. This four week time period could be adjusted in consultation with the educator, current and receiving supervisor and with approval from the Chief Human Resources Officer and the Association President.
