This position provides individualized and group art therapy sessions to support patients in managing stress, anxiety, and the emotional challenges associated with a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Through the use of creative expression, the therapist fosters a safe space for coping and communication, promoting resilience and psychological healing.
Job Description
Duties
- Assesses patient needs and develops individualized treatment plans that are meant to promote self-expression, reduce distress, facilitate coping, or enhance development. Provides art therapy services, assesses patient response, and modifies plans over time in response to patient progress.
- Educate patients and caregivers about the therapeutic benefits of creative expression. Support patients in processing emotions such as fear, grief, and uncertainty associated with diagnosis and treatment.
- Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and communicate patient progress and emotional needs to providers. Collaborate with other caregivers or refer patients for more specialized services.
- Track outcomes, patient feedback, and engagement data to support quality improvement and reporting for stakeholders and donors.
- Maintain accurate documentation of sessions and patient interactions. Ensure program adherence to hospital policies, ethical standards, and grant/donor requirements.
