The City of Norfolk Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking an intermittent part-time Recreation Aide responsible for providing assistance with the facility operations, tours, aquatic fitness classes and monitor aquatic fitness areas. Norfolk's Department of Parks and Recreation is proud to announce it has been awarded national accreditation by the Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies. This ensures we will continue to provide quality recreational services that enrich the lives of Norfolk's residents. Department Hiring Rate: $15.00/hour Essential functions include but are not limited to:
  • Provide assistance and guidance to patrons by answering phones, relaying messages and responding to inquiries.
  • Registers youth and adult for aquatic programs and collects fees.
  • Operate computer software (excel, word and outlook), copiers, telephone, faxes and audio and visual equipment in the completion of regular duties.
  • Assists others in completing documentation, applications and other similar documents.
  • Files, sort, assembles documents, make copies, processes outgoing mail and deliver incoming mails.
  • Monitor the safety of patrons, completes daily logs and relative activities.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive work relationship with a diverse population and effectively respond to inquiries.
Requires level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency; Graduation from high school or equivalent preferred.

Some experience working in a customer service setting or experience working with children/youth in a recreation, athletics, fitness, aquatics, education setting preferred.
CPR/AED and First Aid certification is preferred.

This position requires excellent inter-personal, communication and organizational skills and the ability to effectively interact with and contribute to the growth and development of diverse citizen groups.

Ability to see, hear, stand/walk for extended periods of time, lift from ground to above shoulder, climb, bend, stoop, sit, push, pull, perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and utilize telephone communications The preferred candidate will possess:
  • A Valid Drivers License.
  • CPR,AED, and First Aid within 6mos

Work Hours : Monday to Saturday; 6:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.; not to exceed 19.5 hours per week; flexible hours will apply including weekends, holidays, and special events.
