Job Description
General Purpose of Job:
Evaluates and treats speech and language pathologies in an impatient and \ or outpatient setting.
Essential Duties:
This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Is responsible for creating a destination, experience-based service, delivers customized experiences using patient profiles.
- Completes initial Speech Therapy Evaluation and develops a treatment plan of care for assigned patients.
- Provides Speech Therapy Treatment after analyzing patient information to determine the needs and problems appropriate for speech and language pathologies.
- Documents patient treatments, initial evaluation, progress notes and discharge summaries in a timely manner in accordance with hospital policies and insurance requirements.
- Performs Speech Therapy Re-evaluations to assess patient progress; recommends changes to the treatment plan of care as appropriate.
- Communicates regularly with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patient families, insurance companies and other regarding patient's treatment and progress.
- Prepares and adapts instructional material and therapy aids.
- Assists in scheduling patient treatments\appointments along with referring patients to other hospital services.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service programs as required.
- Assist in maintaining therapy equipment and cleaning treatment areas; ordering supplies as necessary.
- Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values and customer service initiatives. Adheres to organization's policies and procedures, and compliance guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
General Requirements Certificate for Clinical Competence through American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) earned before/at time of hire State of Michigan SLP license Work Experience Minimum of one year of related speech therapy, or school-based experience Education Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited university. Specialized Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of Speech and Language Pathologies Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and hospital policies related to the provision of rehabilitation services including HIPAA confidentiality and JCAHO mandates. Knowledge of required assessment tests and tools Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate, orally and in written form with patient's family, physician and health care professionals, and insurance companies in the exchange of information. Presents self in a warm, profession and caring manner Ability to analyze to develop treatment plans and goals Demonstrates professional appearance Analytical ability to assess patient progress and recommend appropriate changes to the plan of care Mental ability to complete required documentation in a timely manner, deal with the concerns of patients and their families, and handle frequent scheduling changes Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job
