Description
Under the direction of the ECI Program Director, the Early Intervention Specialist has the necessary authority to plan and provide services to eligible individuals of the ECI Program and travel within a 10 county area.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to
Identify children with disordered language development with atypical or scattered skills; moderate to severe oral-motor/feeding issues; cleft palate; or serious articulation/speech disorders. Provide services for the habilitation, rehabilitation or prevention of communicative or oral-motor/feeding disorders or delays in development of communication skills. Provide services within a ten county area to address the functional needs of children with speech-language delays. These services are designed to improve the childs ability to perform tasks in home, daycare, and community settings. Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of each childs Individual Family Service Plan. Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all services provided to children and their families. Be accountable to a Clinical Supervisor of the ECI Program, in adherence to the agency mission and philosophy.
The Early Intervention Specialist must be able to lift, hold and play with young children and move in and out of sitting positions on the floor, as well as sit at a desk. Must also be able to operate a motor vehicle.
The job requires extensive travel for service delivery and flexible hours and schedule. HFC incorporates principles of trauma-informed care, which includes cultural sensitivity, in all areas of service delivery. All job descriptions include the responsibility to learn about and implement trauma-informed practices within the scope of work for the position.
Reassignment is a condition of employment that may occur at the employers discretion. Work location and hours could change based on program needs
Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience
Must Possess a master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology (or have been grandfathered) and hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence of ASHA in Speech/Language Pathology. (If such certificate has not already been earned, eligibility for and completion of said certificate is expected within one year of hire.) Maintain current licensure by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
Must maintain a valid and current driver's license, and be insurable under Center insurance. Position may require use of personal vehicle in performance of job related duties and proof of PIP insurance.
Must pass and maintain all Center mandated trainings, and complete all required initial ECI training before working directly with children and families.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have strong communication skills (speaking, listening, exchange of ideas, problem solving, etc.) to understand and be understood in order to perform the following duties with favorable effect in person, in writing, and via telephone for clients, staff, and community.
Must have strong organizational capabilities in order to ensure the efficient and timely processing of a consumer through the early intervention system of services.
Must have the capacity to build rapport with consumers in order to assist in accessing community resources.
Must have the capacity to lift, hold, and play with young children, and move into and out of sitting positions on the floor, as well as sit at a desk.
Must be literate and possess basic math skills,
Skilled in the use of personal and network computers, word processing, database, spreadsheet and office management software (Microsoft)
Must have visual acuity of 20/20, depth perception, and have strong fine motor skills
