This foundational course introduces Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students to the structure and function of the human nervous system. With an emphasis on clinically relevant neuroanatomy and neurophysiology, the course equips students with the vocabulary, spatial understanding, and conceptual framework necessary to apply neuroscience principles to physical therapy practice. The course is organized into three main components:

Lecture-based learning focusing on nervous system development, structure, and function using PowerPoint presentations, embedded knowledge checks, and interactive activities.

Wet lab sessions involving the study of human brain and spinal cord specimens to promote three-dimensional understanding of neuroanatomical relationships.

Clinical correlations and discussions designed to bridge basic science with clinical application through patient demonstrations, case studies, and problem-solving exercises.

Throughout the semester, students' progress from learning core terminology to analyzing functional pathways and their clinical significance. The instructional approach emphasizes early investment in foundational content, building a problem-solving model that supports clinical reasoning in neurologic physical therapy.
