Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor Athletics, performs responsible, professional work in organizing, developing, and assisting with athletics programs, athletic rentals and activities at the Recreation Center and outdoor athletic facilities. Supervises assigned contract staff

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans, implements, monitors, promotes, schedules and evaluates comprehensive recreation programs, which will include nights and weekends.

  • Contacts local businesses, individuals and community organizations for program support and participation.

  • Recruit, hire and schedule contract employees.

  • Assists with contract payroll.

  • Assists with front desk responsibilities at the Recreation Center and Tennis Center, including program registration, booking for programs and facilities, equipment check-out and cash handling.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for use of Recreation Center and outdoor athletic facilities; enforces rules and policies.

  • Arranges for and schedules facilities and appropriate activity supervision for programs in and outside of recreation center.

  • Analyzes facility and program statistics to prepare monthly and annual financial and program participation reports and others as assigned.

  • Serves as team lead when Recreation Supervisor and Senior Recreation Specialist are not present.

  • Performs office administrative tasks including basic accounting, creating administrative forms, spreadsheets, and creating and reviewing scheduling calendars for staff and programs.

  • Inspects all areas in Recreation Center and outdoor athletic facilities to ensure safety of all guests.

  • Interacts with public and staff on a daily basis; responds to inquiries, addresses complaints, grievances, emergency issues; assists patrons as needed.

  • Assists in the development of and hosting of special events within the department.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, training, and Experience Guidelines

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, physical education, leisure services, or related field. Six (6) months of experience in the development and implementation of recreation /leisure programs. OR Any combination of experience, education or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Knowledge of:

  • Purpose, use and benefits of municipal recreational activities.

  • Basic Rules and regulations for amateur athletics, games, and competitions, including Texas Amateur Athletic Foundation TAAF) standards and USA Softball.

  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions

  • Local community resources and regional community services programs.

  • Recreational programs and activities.

  • Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances.

  • Safety practices and procedures

Skill in:

  • Providing effective customer service and dealing tactfully and courteously with the public.

  • Promoting and enforcing safe workplace practices.

  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the general public.

  • Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software.

  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Interpreting policies and procedures.

  • Data analysis and problem solving.

  • Handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.

  • Planning, marketing, and promoting programs.

  • Working with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class "C" Texas drivers license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.

CPR, First Aid, AED certification or must obtain within six (6) months of hire date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, bending, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls. Work is performed indoors and outdoors at City recreation facilities and venues; required to perform moderate physical work and move up to 40 pounds. Chemicals and recreation equipment.

Hiring Range: $21.26 - $26.63, hourly.
