Position overview: Our district is seeking a dedicated and skilled School Physical Therapist to join our team of professionals committed to supporting students' physical needs within the K-12 educational environment. This vital role focuses on enabling students to access their learning environments, participate fully in school activities, and promote independence through targeted interventions, . The Physical Therapist functions as a related service provider in accordance with state and federal regulations, including IDEA and Section 504 of the ADA.
Key responsibilities include:
- participating in the IEP/504 process to determine the need for physical therapy services and gathering functional motor performance data.
- select and interpret assessment tools
- design and implement interventions aligned with IEPs or 504 Plans
- provide direct and indirect therapy services
- collaborate with school staff and families
- coordinates and facilitates training for school staff
- educate others on the impact of impairments on education
- consult on accessibility and equipment needs
- additional duties as assigned by Chief Student Services Officer or designee.
Minimum qualifications
Candidates must possess a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from an accredited program and hold a current Connecticut license to practice Physical Therapy. Successful completion of the NPTE is required. Essential skills include strong communication, collaboration, and organizational abilities, as well as maintaining confidentiality. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and stand for extended periods. Knowledge of disabilities, relevant laws (like IDEA), and regulations is necessary. Experience with pediatric and multiple disabled populations in a school or clinical setting is preferred.
Salary range is $90,000 - $95,000, commensurate with experience.
