Mental Health Counselor Hendrix College is seeking a full-time, 9-month Mental Health Counselor. Reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, the Mental Health Counselor provides individual therapy to college students to help them reach their full potential by focusing on and improving their well-being and mental health, exploring their values and clarifying their belief systems, developing their social and emotional learning, and establishing a strong sense of self in order to thrive and lead meaningful lives. Counselors also consult with various campus offices regarding crisis/crisis response, accommodations, and student life. MAJOR RESPONSBILITIES:
  • Assess student concerns and address needs; provide individual therapy/treatment plan and support for a range of issues, from initial intake to termination
  • Facilitate support groups/family therapy as needed on behalf of student to promote growth and resilience
  • Crisis intervention and risk assessment; respond to emergencies promptly to ensure safety of students
  • Maintain records and documentation; complete all paperwork (i.e., intake forms, progress notes, etc.) in a timely manner
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for consultation and collaboration with Director of Counseling Services, campus psychiatrist, and other colleagues within the office and across the campus community to offer guidance and ensure student success
  • Provide educational outreach, workshops, and prevention programming/presentations about various topics to raise awareness; collaborate with other colleagues/offices/departments to offer events
  • Strictly adhere to HIPPA policies and guidelines regarding confidentiality; outline therapy expectations and limitations; strong understanding of Title IX procedures
  • Provide assistance with community referrals to local providers to ensure continuity of care
  • Retain current license with continuing education/professional development and pursue training in ethical standards and best practices in the mental health field
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attend and participate in Student Affairs and Counseling Services staff meetings
  • Other duties as they relate to the position or as assigned by the Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of masters degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or related field with current state license to practice independently
  • Demonstrated experience in providing therapy, preferably in a college or university setting
