116 Job DescriptionUnder general supervision, the Oncology Massage Therapist uses a variety of evidence-based massage techniques to help alleviate pain and discomfort for cancer patients and general clients in a non-clinical setting. The position works closely with clinicians and staff members in Integrative Wellness as well as other services within the cancer program. In addition, the position is assigned to the Boutique and performs retail related functions as a member of the team.
Experience
One (1) year of experience as LMT with one (1) year experience in oncology massage and lymphedema massage is required.
Three (3) years of experience as LMT with one (3) years experience in oncology massage and lymphedema massage in a hospital-setting preferred.
Certification & Licensures
Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is required.
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Healthcare Provider (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.
Oncology Massage Certification is preferred.
Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) is preferred.
Qualifications
Skillful in multiple massage techniques (Medical, Swedish, Neuromuscular, Reflexology).
Empathetic and compassionate with the ability to put patients and/or clients at ease.
Ability to tailor treatments for patients with various medical conditions and comorbidities.
Ability to assess and treat a diverse cancer population.
Understands the complexities of cancer and its treatment side effects.
Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary medical team.
Recognizes the strengths and limitations of massage therapy as a complementary treatment modality.
Skilled in appropriate draping practices.
Ability to ensure a comfortable and relaxing environment for clients.
Provide approved resources and educational materials to clients.
Utilizes best practices in hand hygiene and disinfection practices.
Professional communication with patients, clinicians, and other staff members.
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
