Description
Under regular supervision, performs responsible professional work in planning, implementing and supervising a wide variety of recreation and leisure programs and activities for individuals with and without disabilities; does related work as required.
Examples of Duties
Plans, schedules and supervises various recreational and leisurely activities to improve physical, emotional and/or social well-being for individuals with and without disabilities; works closely with recreation centers, community agencies, universities, etc. in developing appropriate programs; trains and supervises employees and volunteers; studies the needs of individuals with and without disabilities and recommends programs to meet these needs; serves Special Olympics North Carolina local coordinator for Forsyth County, develops and maintains appropriate records and reports; investigates and acts upon requests, suggestions and complaints concerning specialize and adaptive activities; coordinates events and special activities relevant to the target population.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation and considerable experience in organized recreational programs for individuals with disabilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of the philosophies, principles and practices of therapeutic recreation; thorough knowledge of the practices and principles of recreation work with the handicapped/elderly; thorough knowledge for first aid methods and safety precautions; ability to efficiently schedule and coordinate programs; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and program participants; ability to prepare reports; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
