Essential Duties\: Provides consultation and counseling services for individuals and groups to promote mental health, assist individuals dealing with stress management, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, adjustment, trauma, academic distress, suicide, substance abuse and relationship issues.

  • Coordinates with outside agencies when a student/client has been hospitalized.
  • Ensures student has a scheduled follow up appointment upon discharge from the hospital.
  • Follows up to make sure discharge paperwork is sent to the UCC.
  • Develops relationships with external agencies and private practices who can provide care when a student’s presenting issues are outside the scope of the UCC, or they have reached agency session limits.
  • Monitors the agency’s high-risk clients to make sure they remain connected to care. Reaches out to clients who have become disconnected from services to schedule an appointment at the UCC or to provide them with an appropriate community referral.
  • Coordinates with the Behavior Intervention Team (BIT) on student issues that require outreach for counseling services.
  • Provides direct clinical services and client care in accordance with skills, training and ability. Collects information from individuals through interviews, observation and tests.
  • Develops treatment plans, advocates for clients in team meetings, acts as a liaison to both the academic community and community agencies on treatment plan, and coordinates the provision of services.
  • Provides consultation to family members, caregivers, and college on the recommended treatment plan and how to support client’s situation.
  • Develops program activities which identify the clients in need of services, development of new clinical approaches and client care strategies to aid in improvement of client care. Coordinates activities for individual and/or group therapy or education sessions for the client.
  • Evaluates programs and assesses quality of services, provides data for program development, supports educational and research goals, and complies with all regulatory standards.
  • Maintains client records and adheres to confidentiality laws and regulations.
  • Supervises other counselors and staff to include hiring, training, evaluating performance and disciplinary actions.
  • Will attend University Counseling Center meetings, be supervised by UCC staff and coordinate all services through the UCC.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position.
  • Required Education and Experience \: Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Relations or related field, AND\:

    • 24 months of professional Counseling experience.

    *Applicants may be enrolled as students at the time they apply but must have completed all degree requirements by start date.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities\:

    • Advanced knowledge of human behavior and individual differences in ability, personality, and interests.
    • Advanced knowledge of federal and state laws regarding client information and records.
    • Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding confidentiality of client information and records.
    • Ability to tell when something is wrong or likely to be wrong.
    • Strong risk assessment and risk management skills.
    • Ability to assess and recommend treatment for behavioral or other disorders
    • Advanced knowledge of methods and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of mental dysfunction.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to listen and understand information
    • Ability to communicate information to the clients, family members, and caregivers.

    Certifications or Licenses\: Licensed Master of Social Work, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Psychologist or ability to obtain one of the aforementioned licenses within 18 months of hire date.

    Departmental Preferences\:

    • Currently Licensed in the State of Oklahoma.

    Supervision\:

    • Might supervise one Master Practicum student intern.
