Summary
Plan and provide therapy to students with mental, physical, or emotional disabilities. Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to maximize physical or mental functioning, increase independent functioning, and/or adjust to disabilities. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies, procedures, and regulations.
Essential Functions
1.Comply with federal and state laws and district policies and procedures in the referral, placement and review process for occupational therapy services.
2.Administer appropriate evaluations in performance areas to identify students' disabilities and determine eligibility for occupationaltherapy services through review of referral information, observation and assessment data.
3.Prepare and participate in the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with the interpretation of assessmentdata, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students according to District procedures.
4.Identify occupational therapy needs and recommend therapeutic objectives for the development of the student's Individual EducationPlan (IEP).
5.Recommend appropriate service delivery model to the ARD committee.
6.Recommend and monitor modifications in school environment to maximize student physical or mental functioning and promotemaximum independence.
7.Provide occupational therapy in sensory, motor, self-help, perceptual and adaptive behavior domains.
8.Use appropriate technology to increase therapeutic effectiveness and maintain required documentation.
9.Use management practices that promote teamwork and collaborative decisions for students with disabilities and developmentaldelays.
10.Develop and maintain skills by applying knowledge gained through staff development and continuing education.
11.Maintain and submit all required documentation for service delivery and School Health and Related Services (SHARS) within themandatory timelines.
12.Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
Other Responsibilities
1.Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
2.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district/department goals.
3.Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Valid license by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners. One (1) year of experience as an occupational therapist, preferred;
prior experience in a public school or pediatric setting, preferred; bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular District wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying.
May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with disabilities. Valid Texas/New
Mexico driver's license; subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation; must be insurable by the district's auto
liability insurance carrier.
