Essential Responsibilities: This description of job responsibilities is intended to reflect the major responsibilities and duties of the job, but is not intended to describe minor duties or other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.
1. Performs comprehensive cardiopulmonary assessments including oxygen saturation monitoring, pulmonary function interpretations, and ECG rhythm recognition to determine appropriate rehabilitation care plans.
2. Conducts patient exercise sessions using telemetry-monitored activity while ensuring safety protocols are observed and modifying treatment based on patient tolerance and vital signs.
3. Maintains active and supportive communication with each patient concerning progress, problems and other issues related to the rehabilitation process.
4. Conducts patient orientation sessions and performs comprehensive Phase I cardiopulmonary assessments for inpatients, ensuring individualized care plans and education to support safe and effective rehabilitation.
5. Develops and implements individualized rehabilitation plans in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals; provides respiratory care consistent with physician orders and department protocols.
6. Assists in disease-specific education including medication management, breathing techniques (pursed-lip, diaphragmatic breathing), airway clearance methods, energy conservation, and smoking cessation.
7. Performs and evaluates outcomes of 6-minute walk tests, spirometry, and exercise tolerance evaluations necessary for program admission, progression, and discharge planning.
8. Delivers routine patient reassessments to monitor progress and recommend adjustments to treatment plans. Communicates noteworthy changes or concerns with care team.
9. Documents all care, patient progress, and interventions accurately and timely in the electronic medical record according to department policy and regulatory standards.
10. Participates in program development, quality improvement initiatives, and data collection for program outcomes and accreditation requirements.
11. Responds effectively in emergency situations utilizing BLS and ACLS competencies within the scope of respiratory therapy.
12. Maintains treatment area in compliance with infection control and safety guidelines. Ensures availability and functionality of necessary rehabilitation equipment.
13. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
Education: Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
Experience: 2 years Respiratory experience. Experience in Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation desirable.
Licensure: Current RCP license to practice in the State of Georgia.
Respiratory skills as defined by the clinical practice guidelines set forth by the AARC. American Heart Association BLS required; ACLS Certification required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
