Responsible for performing and monitoring quality pulmonary function testing. Responsible for performing all respiratory therapy procedures and tests.

Reports to\: Director Cardiopulmonary/Neurodiagnostic Services

Performs EKGs and rhythm strips with a minimum of repeats and artifact accurately.

Assists in training of other personnel appropriate diagnostic tests.

Clinical Procedures/Performance (Aerosol treatments, Oxygen Therapy, etc.) Initiates/Performs diagnostic modalities. Verifies orders, gathers appropriate equipment, and educates patient.

Diagnostic Procedures/Performance (ABG, Pulmonary Screening, & Saturation check) Initiates/performs therapeutic modalities. Verifies orders, gathers appropriate equipment, and educates patient

Patient Assessment Monitors efficacy of test, request changes as indicated. Notes procedure tolerance.

Patient Education Communicates diagnostic procedures, benefits, and purpose to patient/family clearly. Gives patient education literature, follow up on questions, and document events.

Equipment Proficiency Uses and cares for equipment properly.

Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.

Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.

Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.

Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.

Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.

Minimum Education
Associates or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy - Required

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Computer skills required. Recognition of Cardiac Arryhythmias is required

Certifications\:
BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required to be current upon hire.

ACLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required within 90 days of employment, if not current upon hire

Licenses\: Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist
