Reports To: Director of Services

Summary: The primary function of this position is completing intakes via telephone or virtual platform to determine eligibility for vocational rehabilitation services through Wisconsin Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). This position also requires the gathering and analyzing of records to help in the process of determining eligibility for DVR services. Diagnostic interviewing skills are critical to ensure the information gathered is thorough and accurate. Effective communication skills and an understanding of ethical practices are necessary to establish and maintain working relationships with counselors and staff in DVR offices across the state as recommendations for eligibility are developed. This position allows for a hybrid work environment whereby time is spent in a remote setting as well as on-campus as needed to meet job responsibilities. Work environment is determined based on the needs of SVRI and the University of Wisconsin - Stout.

Essential Functions:

Case Development for Eligibility Recommendations (90%)

  • Complete initial or follow-up intake interviews as necessary to obtain pertinent personal, employment, and disability information.
  • Work within a web-based case management system to receive applications, maintain communication with DVR staff, log case notes accurately, and provide recommendations.
  • Systematically process releases of information with providers and consumers to ensure completeness of the documentation for eligibility.
  • Recommend eligibility and OOS category placement as soon as possible within the 60-day period allowed by federal law.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies as required to move the process forward, based on the individual needs of applicants and accepted DVR practices.
  • Exercise professional judgment in developing recommendations.
  • Follow accepted DVR practices related to case management.
  • Complete required training on web-based case management systems security, and other areas.
  • Adhere to the requirements of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.
  • Recognize the importance of confidentiality and the protection of personally identifiable information and follow established policy and procedure.

Other Functions: (10%)

  • Assist with training and on-boarding of new staff members as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of respect and civility.
  • Model civil communication and interaction.
  • Support a culture of collegiality and citizenship.
  • Model professional standards of behavior with students and colleagues.
  • Serve on SVRI, UW-Stout, and committees identified as appropriate and consistent with availability.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Represents rehabilitation service programs among community agencies to raise awareness of services and coordinate patient treatment across specialties
  • Updates patient records with treatment plans and progress, and reports noticeable changes in client behavior to personnel in accordance with departmental and agency guidelines
  • Assesses patients, determines appropriate treatment, and creates specialized treatment plans to develop coping skills, modify behavior, and increase independence
  • Assists in providing rehabilitation counselor instruction to students and interns

Compensation:

This is a full-time annual 12-month appointment. The minimum starting salary is $43,888 with a hybrid work plan. Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, Human Services, Psychology, or related fields
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats
  • Ability to relate to diverse populations, including individuals with disabilities
  • Demonstrated skills with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of work experience in Vocational Rehabilitation or related fields
  • Knowledge of physical and mental impairments and their effects on vocational and social adjustment
  • Experience with techniques and principles of diagnostic interviewing
  • Knowledge of community resources and methods of accessing them
  • Experience with web-based case management systems.
