Hastings College is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Mental Health Counselor to join our Student Engagement team. This full-time position is dedicated to supporting the emotional and psychological well-being of our diverse student body. The counselor provides direct clinical services, crisis intervention, and proactive mental health programming that contributes to a thriving campus environment. During June and July, you are required to regularly check email and attend meetings as assigned by the supervisor; however, you are not required to report to the office daily.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling services for students with a wide range of mental health concerns.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial and risk assessments to guide treatment planning.
  • Deliver crisis intervention services, including safety planning and coordination with campus and community resources.
  • Develop and implement tailored treatment plans and monitor progress.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential clinical documentation in compliance with ethical and legal standards.
  • Design and lead mental health education and outreach efforts on campus (e.g., stress management, suicide prevention, healthy relationships).
  • Facilitate mental health screening events and appropriate referrals.
  • Participate in weekly student concern meetings and contribute to case consultations.
  • Refer students to off-campus providers for specialized or long-term care as needed.
  • Serve as an active and collaborative member of the Student Engagement team.
  • Contribute to the overall student health strategy in partnership with the Dean of Student Engagement.
  • Present to student groups, residence halls, and during college-wide trainings or in-service events.

Education & Experience:
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a closely related mental health field from an accredited institution.

  • Current, unrestricted license to practice independently as a Mental Health Counselor (e.g., LIMHP, LMHP, LICSW, LMFT) in the State of Nebraska, or ability to obtain Nebraska licensure prior to start date if licensed in another state.

  • One to two years of post-master's clinical experience in a high school or college setting is preferred.

  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems for mental health is preferred.

Licensure or Certification:

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record insurability in accordance with the College insurance plan.

  • Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) - State of Nebraska or

  • Certified Professional Counselor or Licensed Psychologist

  • ACA member – ACCA sub group
