POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for provision and administration of specific outpatient therapy treatments only under the direct supervision of the staff Therapists and Therapists Assistants. The Therapy Technician as directed and supervised by the staff Therapists and Therapist Assistants, assists with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The Therapy Technician participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Performs clerical duties, assists with posting of patient charges in the computer order entry system or on hardcopy invoice system. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety and fire safety programs.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High school graduate or GED certificate required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Organizational skills is necessary
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Ability to use computers for data entry
  • Ability to take direction from Therapists and Assistants
  • Understand proper patient identification methods

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :

  • Satisfactory completion of Clinical Competency Evaluation and job training
  • One year experience as Physical Therapy Tech preferred
  • Bilingual in English / Spanish preferred

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practice
  • Responsible for providing specific treatment only as directed by the staff Therapists and Therapist Assistants. Adheres to standards of physical medicine practice for geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  • Ability to monitor vital signs, maintains adequate knowledge base regarding cardiovascular and respiratory precautions for the patient undergoing physical medicine services and treatments.
  • Communicates any changes in condition (physical or mental) to staff Therapists and Assistants, nursing and other facility personnel, as appropriate.
  • Orders, stocks, maintains accurate records of adaptive equipment.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family.
  • Transports patients according to scheduled appointment time, maintains compliance with safety policies during transport at all times.
  • Prepares and cleans treatment area for patient use at all times. Performs final cleaning at close of department, in preparation for first morning patient.
  • Records treatment/service revisions in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Participates in educational staff performance improvement in-services.
  • Participates in infection control, departmental equipment training and organizational CQI, safety and fire safety program
  • Assist front office with patient appt. calls/reminders
  • Other duties as needed

B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
