The Position
Under general supervision, Therapeutic Recreation Specialists perform initial and periodic assessments, treatment planning, and therapeutic services to assist individuals in correctional institutions, rehabilitation programs, long-term care facilities, residential facilities, mental health facilities and facilities for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to improve their mental and physical health and/or social functioning.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health (SNAMHS) is recruiting for a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist 1 for Stein Forensic Hospital. The TRS1 is responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating therapeutic recreation programs at Stein Forensic Hospital and SNAMHS with a focus on supporting rehabilitation and overall well-being through structured and engaging activities. Primarily working with clients on forensic units, the TRS1 tailors recreation therapy to meet the unique needs of forensic populations. This includes evaluating clients' strengths, interests, and challenges; reviewing medical records; and consulting with medical staff to address physical or mental barriers. They design and implement therapeutic activities, conduct individual and group sessions, and adapt programs or equipment for special needs. Additionally, the TRS1 maintains accurate documentation through assessments, treatment plans, and DAP-style progress notes to ensure individualized, effective care.
