Hours and Duration : Scheduled annual hours are limited to 1040 hours per calendar year. Hours and schedule may vary.
The Recreation Specialist Farm/Equestrian (Supplemental) will assist with basic animal care for the equine and livestock at Farrel-McWhirter Farm. This can include but is not limited to such work at the parks facility as: feeding, grooming, handling, first aid and routine health maintenance.
The position will also clean animal living areas such as pens, stalls, and cages. Routine maintenance of Farm and Barnyard will be required. Communicates Farm and park policies and program information to the public. May support programs as needed, such as leading equestrian programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Physical Demands
The following represent the physical demands that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Depending on the program, work is performed indoors and outdoors. Those assignments working outdoors may be exposed to varying weather conditions. Work involves moving throughout the facility and community.
- Driving and field work required.
- Operate a computer and other office equipment
- Frequent communication with City employees and customers, program participants and/or parents and guardians
- Hours vary depending upon season, work assignments, program enrollment; may be scheduled in morning, evening, or weekends
- Move items weighing up to 50 pounds on occasion
Education and Experience:
- General knowledge of a variety of recreational activities and/or sports
- Successful passing of a required background check
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- One to two years of applicable experience
- Minimum age 16
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid WA State Driver's license required. Accommodations for lack of driver's license may be considered depending on the assignment or circumstances.
- Must have or obtain First Aid and CPR within two months of hire
