Speech and Language Pathologist

1. Ability to create, write, monitor and facilitate IEPs for students on caseload. Actively participate in IEP meetings for students assigned to the caseload.

2. Participate in parent meetings outside of the IEP to support student needs.

3. Prepare materials and plan appropriately to deliver speech services aligned to the identified needs of students.

4. Establish reasonable expectations and keep detailed records of students progress towards their IEP goals.

5. Administer evaluations deemed appropriate for initial case studies and reevaluations.

6. Work collaboratively with special education teachers, general education teachers, and Support Team in understanding the needs of students.

7. Be sensitive to physical and learning styles of students with respect to their identified disabilities.

8. Promote student respect for the rights of others in the classroom.

9. Attend department meetings.

10. Maintain positive professional relations with colleagues.

11. Hold high expectations for all students and demonstrate a deep belief that all students can learn and succeed.

12. Communicate openly with student, staff, parents and other stakeholders regarding students achievement and progress in speech therapy.

13. Commit to equity and eliminating systemic obstacles for students of color.

1. Valid Illinois Professional Educators License.

2. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC).

3. Current Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations (IDFPR) Certification.

4. Minimum 3 years of experience in providing speech therapy for students with learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, and cognitive disabilities.

5. Experience in developing and implementing IEPs that address language deficits for verbal and non-verbal students.

6. Experience in Social Thinking in the delivery of IEP services.

7. Knowledgeable about the IDEA and the laws that govern working with students with disabilities.

The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) will identify, evaluate and provide speech intervention for communicatively handicapped students including language impairment, articulation, voice, and fluency disorders, and autism spectrum disorder. The Speech and Language Pathologist will help collaborate with general and special education teachers and related service personnel to support student access to the general education curriculum. The SLP will also be responsible for the development and implementation of IEP goals across a continuum of settings.
