POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add an innovative and passionate Recreation Specialist to the team! This position will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing specific area programs and offer services to diverse communities, such as youth and teens, adults, and seniors at Albemarle Road Recreation Center. Specific program areas could include athletics, arts and crafts, social events, and health and wellness. The incumbent will also be directly involved with activity programming for summer camps and other day camps throughout the school year. Additionally, they will be instrumental in creating positive relationships and partnerships with the community. The successful candidate will have experience in community-based sports and recreation environments. This full-time position will work a flexible schedule to include mornings/daytime, evenings, and weekends on a rotating basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in various areas of recreation programming (I.E: Athletics, Summer Camp, Fitness, etc.)
Hands-on experience in a variety of individual and team sports

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop, lead, and evaluate programs and activities in a recreation center or park facility
Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals
Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary
Enforce rules and regulations
Collect fees and take registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals
Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas
Referee at various sports activities
Provide services as timekeeper, scorekeeper or line-person at games
Supervise children involved in after-school, summer, or other recreational programs
Handle inquiries and complaints from public
Some programs may require driving a county vehicle to transport participants or commute to a different location
Assist with department events and field trips
May serve as the manager on duty if the Facility Manager is not available

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: No experience required

Education: Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Health and Physical education, or a related field

Combination of relevant experience and relevant education accepted?: Yes

Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Drivers License and County Driving Privileges.; Requires the ability to obtain (within one year of hire) and maintain CPR, Wilderness First Aid or First Responder, and American Canoe Association, Kayak and SUP level I or II

Computer Skills: Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
