Adjunct Professor/Program Director in Clinical Art Therapy

The LIU School of Arts and Design announces a vacancy for the position of Adjunct Professor/Program Director in Clinical Art Therapy About LIU LIU Post is one of the most beautiful, historic, and scholarly settings in the country. POSITION: This position is for an Adjunct Professor/Program Director of Clinical Art Therapy for the LIU Post Department of Art, Design, and Game Development. The appointment is to begin 1 September 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Art, Design & Game Development seeks a new Adjunct Professor/Program Director of Clinical Art Therapy.

Teaching of a specified course or courses.

Provide necessary documentation to maintain ACATE (Accreditation Council for Art Therapy Education) standings.

Demonstrate knowledge and skills relating to teaching methodology, curriculum development, and student evaluation, including practices consistent with inclusive and equitable teaching principles.

Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the course syllabus.

Plan and provide theoretical and clinical or studio experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the Clinical Art Therapy and Counseling Program.

Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes, including accreditation competencies.

Schedule regular office hours on a weekly basis, for student availability, if applicable.

Schedule administrative time for course preparation, timely assessment of student work, and submission of grades.

Attend any scheduled faculty meetings and other program-specific meetings.

Maintain communication with the Program faculty, Department Chair, and other faculty regarding any course or student issues, or as needed.

Engage in self-evaluation and post-course review of student feedback.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The Program Director must:

1) possess a minimum of a master's degree (a doctoral degree is preferred); and

2) possess national certification in the field of Art Therapy by an organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

Current national Art Therapy Registration (ATR), Board Certification (ATR-BC) preferred

Current LCAT or state licensure in the related field

Experience in managing graduate-level art therapy education and practice is preferred

Competence with the required knowledge and skills of the assigned content area

Knowledge of the program and expectations

Understanding of ACATE standards

Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and electronic communication skills

Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with other faculty members, as well as students

Ability to perform the requirements of the job description (listed above)

Strong administrative skills and a collaborative style are needed. Demonstrated ability to lead faculty through curriculum and facilities changes. Current knowledge of industry practices and development tools is a necessity. University-level teaching experience is expected. Candidates will be expected to teach as adjunct member in the program. Candidates should be innovators and leaders in the field of Clinical Art Therapy, with an interest in program development and student recruitment.

APPOINTMENT: An adjunct appointment at a rank commensurate with experience and qualifications under the auspices of the LIU Post, the Department of Art, Design, and Game Development - Clinical Art Therapy - Assistant Professor/Program Director graduate program, subject to budgetary approval.
