Job Summary:

A licensed speech-language pathologist employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and indirect care in the rehabilitation of the patient.

Education:

Required: Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology

Required: Knowledge of general speech-language principles and practical skills

Required: Tennessee licensure. BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward. Certification of Clinical Competency from America Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Department Position Summary:

Provide age-appropriate evaluations. Provide treatments to patients with a variety of diagnoses, which include, but not limited to: CVA, ICH, neurogenic dysphagia, neuromuscular diseases, head injury, hand and neck cancer, laryngectomy, cardiac and other surgical pts, post intubation and respiratory failure, etc. Provide evaluation and treatment of a variety of disorders which includes, but not limited to: expressive and receptive language disorders/aphasia, dysarthria, cognitive-linguistic and communication disorders. Provide evaluation for use of augmentative alternative communication devices. Provide evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders, inclusive of clinical bedside swallowing evaluation, video-fluoroscopic swallow studies and flexible endoscopic swallowing evaluations. Provide evaluation of communication and voice disorders inclusive of tracheostomized patients. Maintain accurate, timely documentation: evaluations, re-evaluations, treatment progress notes. Serve as clinical instructor for Speech-Language Pathology students. Participate in continuing education programs. Participates in hospital and community education. Participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement efforts of the department and the Medical Center. Participate in departmental meetings and represent speech pathology team in interdisciplinary meetings and education opportunities. Maintains standards as set down by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association regarding treatment procedures and professional ethics.
