Location:East Providence School DistrictReports To: Director of Special EducationPosition Type: Occupational Therapist (Full Time)Job Summary:The School-Based Occupational Therapist supports students with disabilities in accessing the curriculum and school environment by addressing challenges related to fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-regulation, and functional independence. Working as part of the special education team, the Occupational Therapist evaluates students, develops Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, and delivers therapy in accordance with federal and state education laws.Essential Responsibilities:Conduct occupational therapy evaluations as part of special education eligibility processes.Develop, implement, and monitor individualized occupational therapy services in students IEPs or 504 Plans.Provide direct and consultative occupational therapy services in a variety of school settings (e.g., classroom, cafeteria, playground).Collaborate with teachers, parents, specialists, and administrators to integrate therapeutic strategies into the school day.Assist in developing accommodations, modifications, and strategies to promote student access and participation in educational activities.Contribute to IEP meetings and progress reporting aligned with student goals and data collection.Recommend and facilitate use of adaptive equipment, tools, or environmental modifications to support access and function.Support transitions (e.g., preschool to kindergarten, middle to high school) with planning focused on student independence and readiness.Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with district policies, IDEA, Section 504, and Medicaid (if applicable).Participate in professional development and stay current with best practices in school-based occupational therapy.Required Qualifications:Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.Valid Occupational Therapy License issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health.Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and best practices in school-based occupational therapy.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in school settings and knowledge of IEP processes.Strong collaboration and consultation skills with multidisciplinary teams.Familiarity with assistive technology, sensory integration, and fine motor/visual motor programming.Understanding of trauma-informed practices, behavioral supports, and inclusive education.
