**Primary Function/General Purpose of Position**
The Recreational Therapist completes recreational / leisure assessments on patients and help develop the multidisciplinary treatment plan to provide a wide variety of recreational activities and leisure education to patients meant to improve physical and mental well-being. They create customized treatment plans to meet the needs of patients through development and communication techniques to promote social skills and cope with stress, anxiety, and/or depression. This role will document and evaluate patient progress and treatment effectiveness, adjust treatment plans as needed, coordinate recreational therapies such as sports, social activities, and arts to improve the mental and physical well-being of patients.
**Essential Job Functions**
+ __ Completes recreational / leisure assessments on patients. Creates customized treatment plans to meet the needs of patients.
+ Documents and evaluates patient progress and treatment effectiveness. Adjusts treatment plans as needed.
+ Participates in patient care conferences and in developing the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
+ Cleans departmental areas and supplies after patient use.
+ Maintains departmental safety of work environment and notifies appropriate personnel if necessary. Checks department for expired recreational or leisure items and discards as appropriate.
+ Coordinates a wide variety of recreational therapies such as sports, social activities, and arts to improve the mental and physical well-being of patients.
+ Provides recreational activities and leisure education in both an individual and group setting.

**Licensing/Certification**
BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, required within 30 days for BSMH, required at hire for RSFH)
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist- CTRS (preferred at BSMH, preferred at hire but required within 90 days at RSFH)
**Education**
Bachelor's degree in Recreational therapy or related field (required)
**Work Experience**
2 years of experience in equivalent setting (preferred)
**Training**
None
