JOB SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist will assess student’ functional physical development level; plan and implement appropriate treatment to meet individual student objectives; identifying architectural barriers; providing recommendations for accessibility, program development and student placement. This job reports directly to the Special Education Director.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university, or will complete a bachelor degree program prior to the contract start date.
  2. Valid Utah Occupational Therapist License from DOPL.
  3. Professional communication skills including, but not limited to: excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities; and empathic listening and persuasive speaking skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Spanish Speaker: speaks, reads, writes and understands spoken Spanish.
  2. Have an ESL endorsement or will obtain one within 4 years of hire.
  3. Previous experience.
  4. Experience with grade level/content PLC’s/data meetings for analysis of student data to inform instructional practices for highest student achievement.
  5. Knowledge of effective English Language Learners teaching practices; student social-emotional learning, accelerated/extended learning programs and special needs students, including laws and regulations of special education and 504 plans.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Administers occupational therapy procedures and modalities for the purpose of achieving program objectives.
  2. Assess students’ fine and gross motor skills and functional abilities (e.g. perceptual-motor, hand functions, motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.) for the purpose of determining program eligibility and developing recommendations for treatment, appropriate assistive devices and/or school placement.
  3. Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g. parents, teachers, physicians, administration, maintenance personnel, team members, other professionals, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues and providing services in compliance with established guidelines.
  4. Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services, making recommendations and/or coordinating occupational therapy services with those of other disciplines.
  5. Develops treatment plans, interventions and/or educational materials for the purpose of remediating students’ motor skill deficits and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  6. Directs the work of assigned COTAs for the purpose of providing guidance and ensuring that program objectives are achieved.
  7. Identifies structural issues for the purpose of removing barriers for students with physical limitations and/or identifying appropriate assistive technology.
  8. Instructs students and staff for the purpose of providing information on medical/behavioral attributes, use of assistive devices and/or implementing plans for remediation of functional limitations. Interprets medical reports for the purpose of providing information/intervention plans are appropriate.
  9. Maintains files and/or records (e.g. progress reports, activity logs, billing information, treatment plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance.
  10. Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g. training, IEP’s, team meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information.
  11. Maintains regular and predictable attendance for the purpose of fulfilling job requirements efficiently. Will be required to attend activities, evens, and meetings outside of normal work hours on a regular basis.
  12. Performs site visits at multiple work sites including home visits for the purpose of providing direct therapy interventions and assistance as required.
  13. Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, memos, treatment plans, Medicaid billings, reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  14. Provides direct occupational therapy service for the purpose of developing students daily living skills in compliance with established goals and objectives.
  15. Research resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students’ functional goals.
  16. Responds to inquiries (e.g. parents, teachers, staff, students, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or referral as appropriate.
  17. Transports supplies and equipment to a variety of sites for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items as needed.
  18. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Risks found in the typical work environment, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations.
  2. Driving to work locations.
  3. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work: however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, etc…
