Purpose:
Carries out effective patient treatment plans to restore, compensate, or adapt for loss of patient function, which are established by the licensed physical therapist.
Responsibilities:
- Implements treatment plans established by the supervising physical therapist.
- Informs the supervising physical therapist of any significant change in patients/clients medical status, condition, complexity and/or acuity, which may necessitate changes to established treatment plans.
- Provides recommendations to the supervising physical therapist on treatment plan adjustments when necessary to progress patients/clients or discontinue services.
- Prepares necessary documentation including daily notes and logs in a timely manner according to federal, state and facility-specific rules and regulations.
- Consults with other members of the rehabilitation team to help develop treatment programs consistent with the needs and capabilities of the patient/client and to coordinate comprehensive services delivery.
- Develops effective home programs to maintain and enhance patient/client performance in his/her environment.
- Complies with supervisory rules and regulations required by the state of employment.
- Performs clerical duties such as answering the phone, taking messages, inventory checks, form completion, and insurance authorization tracking.
- Presents a positive service-oriented approach with patients/clients, family, caregivers, facility staff, and co-workers at all times.
- Assists with orientation of new staff, volunteers, and students.
- Assists with equipment maintenance and monitors supply inventory.
- Demonstrates ongoing commitment to reducing costs and improving productivity in the rehabilitation department.
- Demonstrates the ability to handle changing schedules of patients/clients.
- Maintains positive working relationships with the healthcare team, patient/client, family, and caregiver.
- Assists with quality assurance reports and records.
- Assists with development of programs.
- Complies with EverySteps policies and procedures, including but not limited to, universal precautions, safety, risk, and emergency.
Qualifications:
- Current and valid Iowa PTA license
- Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification required
- Mandatory Reporter of Child and Dependent Adult abuse training certification (within 30 days of hire)
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound decision-making
- Ability to accept and work with diverse populations, culturally, economically and educationally
- Must have valid driver's license, auto liability insurance and reliable transportation if driving is required
- Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screen, 2-step TB test and background check
Working Conditions:
- Physical requirements: Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, fingering (picking, pinching, typing, etc.), hearing, grasping (applying pressure with fingers and palm), repetitive motions, feeling (perceiving size, shape, texture, temperature by touching), Visual acuity (field of vision for analyzing data, viewing computer, using measurement devices, operating machines, determining accuracy or neatness, and/or making general observations)
- Environment: Extreme temperatures, Hazards (chemicals, infectious disease), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases)
- Time: Ability to be flexible with a varying schedule and programmatic requirements
- Travel: Required between location
