Job Summary and Qualifications

The Speech Therapist provides high-quality, patient-centered care by developing and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing impairments. As a member of the health care team, the Speech Therapist performs comprehensive patient assessments and establishes appropriate treatment goals. The Speech Therapist serves as an educator to patients, families, students and colleagues.

What you will do in this role:

  • Provides screening or comprehensive evaluation/assessment of communicative or swallowing status of patients referred to the department to determine the need for intervention and continuing evaluation in order for the patient to progress towards the established goals
  • Maintains written documents necessary in-patient care
  • Communicates efficiently and effectively with the radiology department in scheduling special procedures, if warranted
  • Communicates with physicians, patients, families and all members of the healthcare team concerning patient care, including verbal and written instructions in home programs
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served
  • Provide guidance to less experienced staff members
  • Rotates between intradepartmental areas as assigned
  • Maintains up to date skill competencies and check off as required by the department
  • Maintains professional licensure and CPR certification
  • Observes all departmental and hospital safety procedures and universal precautions
  • Participates in all intradepartmental meetings
  • Participates in both intradepartmental and interdepartmental hospital education, continuous improvement programs and continuing education outside the hospital
  • Participate in orientation of new employees and provide guidance to support personnel
  • Assist with all other department members in maintaining a safe, clean and orderly department
  • Assist in transportation of patients and cleaning of equipment when necessary
  • Assist in scheduling patients for treatment
  • Attend Code of Conduct training course annually
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and adherence to HCAs Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrates conduct that is reflective of THRHs commitment to HCAs Code of Conduct
  • Understands and satisfies the needs of the patient population appropriate to the age of the patient served (adults, geriatric, adolescent, pediatric, and parents of neonates)
  • Adheres to the Standards of Behavior for Terre Haute Regional Hospital as per the Customer Relations Policy
What qualifications you will need:

Essential educational/licensure, skills and experience:

  • Possession of a valid license to practice as a registered Speech and Language Pathologist issued by the Board of Medical Examiners in the state of Indiana.
  • Current BLS Certification and Speech and Language Pathologist License must be maintained throughout employment with Terre Haute Regional Hospital

Valued but not required educational/licensure, skills and experience:

  • Membership in and certification by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASLHA) is preferred.
