SCOPE

The Occupational Therapist provides services to students with exceptional educational needs; improves, develops, restores, or maintains students' active participation in self-maintenance, work, leisure, and play in educational environments; and functions as a related service provider under state and federal laws and regulations. The Occupational Therapist reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Pupil Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Evaluate students to determine eligibility and need for occupational therapy services in an educational setting.
  • Develop and implement individualized therapy plans in collaboration with the IEP/504 team.
  • Provide direct and consultative occupational therapy services to students, both individually and in small groups, in various school environments.
  • Adapt and modify activities, materials, and environments to promote student participation and independence.
  • Provide training and support to teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents regarding strategies and accommodations.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of evaluations, progress reports, and service delivery in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
  • Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and other multidisciplinary team meetings as appropriate.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust therapy interventions as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Maintain therapy equipment and recommend acquisition of specialized materials or devices.
  • Stay current with best practices, research, and developments in the field of occupational therapy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from a school accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association
  • Current certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
  • Licensed to practice Occupational Therapy in Connecticut
