General Summary Statement
The Patient Services Representative (PSR) will work collaboratively with other hospital services, medical staff, and administration to ensure that quality patient care is delivered. Actively participates in the quality of care delivered to patients and participates in departmental QC and performance improvement activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Exemplifies customer service by answering phones and interacting with patients, staff, clinicians and visitors in a timely and pleasant manner
Conductsprehensive patient interviews by obtaining accurate information such as Social Security Number, name, address, phone number, guarantor data and phone number, third party payer, etc., while verifying applicable information via on-line software. Assigns coordination of benefits in hospital information system. Explains and obtains signatures as needed.
Verifies eligibility and benefits and obtains authorizations/pre-certifications, and referrals when applicable
o Identifies and collects co-pays from patients at the time of registration
Post payments, generates receipt for patient, perform daily cash reconciliation and ads to daily deposit cashiering standards
o Obtains referrals as required from patients, physician offices or online resources
o Communicate with various insurancepanies to ensure CPT and ICD codes are utilized on requested authorizations / pre-certifications.
o Accuratelypletes MSP and ABN documentation as necessary
o Scans necessary documentation into Patient Record in EHR
o Places orders in clinic software applications as necessary
Assume the role of scheduler as needed.
o Ensureplete accuracy when scheduling patients' initial evaluation to include informing patients of all required information necessary on day of appointment.
o Verify appointment availability for each treatment visit using the current scheduling system.
Education Training and Experience
High School graduate or equivalent
Experience and knowledge of patient registration and/or insurance verification including software applications preferred.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and professionally within the work contact group.
Familiar with medical terminology and demonstrates excellent oral and writtenmunication skills. Provenanization skills, and efficient work habits.
Sound analytical, problem solving and planning skills.
