FUNCTIONS:

Clinical Responsibilities

o Must be able to evalue the pient according to the diagnosis and determine the current level of functioning.

o Must be able to develop trement plans for individual pients assisting with restorion of independent living through improved function.

o Develops and plans functional measurable outcome base goals for individuals with objectives such as improving cognition, neuromuscular re-educion or facilition, perceptual retraining, adaptive equipment needs independence in activities of Daily Living Skills and provide pient/family educion. Able to carry out all approprie trement plans for pients.

o Re-evalues continually and modifies trement as necessary. Discuss pient's functional stus with physicians and other members of the team on a regular basis.

o Evalue home situion for those pients capable of returning to an independent home environment and assist with discharge preparion as approprie within your discipline.

o Able to document clearly perform independent initial evaluions, progress report as outline in the policy manual. Define goals and intervention techniques clearly defined.

o Employee provides in-services educion to physicians, nurses, and other health care professional regarding the trement and care of the pient referred for Occupional Therapy interventions.

o Implements Occupional Therapy's concepts, provides judgments and skills in the evaluion of a pient and formion of a comprehensive trement plan.

o Employee collabores on a regular basis with trement team members through staffing and individual conferences to provide factual da for use in evaluions and interpretions of diagnosis, expected prognosis and functional stus.

o Employees assist with collection of QA/PI da and establishing performance improvements indicors.

o Periodically re-evalues and documents the changes in client's performance and component skills including formulion and implemention of program changes th are consistent with changes in functional stus.

o Assesses and monitors trement programming with regards to the needs of the pient populion, independently solves complex problems reled to Occupional Therapy in the trement of pient referred.

o Develops and implements new trement programs, techniques and/or modifies present programs to increase the functional level of clients.

o Employee is responsible for the indirect supervision of all students, level I, Il, Fieldwork I & Il's, work-study students and volunteers.

o Employee completes daily documention and encounter forms on all pients referred to Occupional Therapy

o Employee is responsible for maintaining a safe therapeutic work environment.

Administrive Responsibilities

o Responsible for maintaining clinical inventory, prepares approprie document for request for equipment and supplies.

o Employee will monitor and design measures for Quality Control/Total Quality Management in the areas of trement services, therapist skills and documention.

o Employee responsible for the supervision of all volunteer and Work-studies assigned to the OT Clinic when requested.

o Indoctrines and orients new staff members as deemed necessary and suitable to establish and support cohesive work relionship.

o Employee will perform other administrive duties as deleged by the Chief of Occupional Therapy section, with the primary reference of carrying out the policies and procedures of this VAMC and the Occupional Therapy section.

Basic Requirements :

Educion.

(1) The individual must meet least one of the following requirements below:

(a) Bachelor's degree in occupional therapy and two (2) years of experience as an occupional therapist; NOTE: The baccalauree degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision th the Accredition Council for Occupional Therapy Educion (ACOTE) would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupional therapy. or

(b) Bachelor's degree in occupional therapy and two (2) full years of gradue educion in a reled field; NOTE: The baccalauree degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision th ACOTE would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupional therapy. or

(c) Master's Degree or higher in occupional therapy.

(2) Individuals must be a gradue of] a degree program in occupional therapy approved by the ACOTE or predecessor organizions. This is inclusive of an internship (supervised fieldwork experience required by the educional institution). ACOTE is the only accredition agency recognized by the United Stes Department of Educion and the Council for Higher Educion Accredition. Degree programs may be verified by contacting the American Occupional Therapy Associion website or their office address: American Occupional Therapy Associion, P.O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD 20824-1220.

English Language Proficiency. Candides must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).

Certificion. Candides must possess a current NBCOT certificion as an OT.

Ste Licensure. Candides must possess a full, current, and unrestricted ste license to practice occupional therapy in a ste, territory or Commonwealth of the United Stes (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia.

May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfhering Provision as described in the VA Qualificion Standard for this occupion (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupion and meet the criteria).

Must pass a background check.

Grade Requirements:

GS-12 Occupional Therapist

Experience/Educion and Licensure. Completion of one year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level and directly reled to the position being filled.

Demonstred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the [experience above, the candide] must demonstre all of the following KSAs:

1. Knowledge of occupional therapy principles and techniques consistent with current clinical standards based on OT theory and evidence based practice.

2. Ability to collabore and communice orally and in writing with all internal and external stakeholders.

3. Ability to use critical analysis, clinical reasoning, and creivity to independently solve complex problems reled to adapting and modifying assessments, trement plans, activities and procedures to meet the needs of pients.

4. Skill in procuring, fabricing, adjusting, adapting, and modifying orthoses, splints, and adaptive equipment for activities of daily living (inclusive of durable medical equipment).

5. Ability to conduct OT reled in-service and clinical training.

Assignments. OTs this level practice independently and are responsible for comprehensive assessment of functional and occupional roles using standardized and non-standardized evaluion tools. OTs select and provide direct occupional therapy interventions and procedures with varying degrees of complexity to enhance safety, wellness, and performance in ADL, instrumental IADL, educion, work, play, leisure, and social participion. OTs demonstre a full professional understanding of the theories of trement in occupional therapy and their proper applicion through the use of activity analysis, behavioral intervention, frame of references, and therapeutic procedures. They are assigned to all program areas within VHA and provide professional, independent occupional therapy services. OTs this level may be given assignments in any area where advanced specialized knowledge is not required on a recurring basis due to the pient populion served and complexity of the facility and/or trement area. Individuals may perform ancillary assignments, including program management duties on an occasional basis, where the complexity and amount of work is not substantial (less than 25% of the duty time).

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12. The actual grade which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is a GS-12.
