This job providesrespiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing andventilation support services to both in-patients and out-patientsranging in age from neonatal to geriatric. Monitors and weansOxygen Therapy and Artificial ventilation, draws, analyzes andreports Arterial Blood Gases and EKGs, and delivers intermittenttherapy. Assists with changing of artificial airways and providesservices as ordered by a physician and in accordance withestablished policies and procedures. To perform this jobsuccessfully, an individual must be able to perform each essentialduty satisfactorily. Education Required - Associate's degree in respiratorytherapy Preferred - Bachelor's degree in respiratory therapy WorkExperience Required - 2 years respiratory therapy experienceCertifications Required - Current license as a RespiratoryTherapist in the state of practice Credentialed by the NationalBoard of Respiratory Care as a Certified or Registered RespiratoryTherapist Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the AmericanHeart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) requiredwithin 90 days of hire Preferred - Neonatal Resuscitation Program(NRP) Certification Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs) - Musthave computer skills and dexterity required for data entry andretrieval of information. - Effective verbal and writtencommunication skills and the ability to present information clearlyand professionally. - Strong interpersonal skills. Job Duties -Performs routine and advanced therapeutic procedures. - Reviews anddocuments all clinical information regarding each patientencounter. - Educates patients and healthcare team on proceduresand treatment plan. - Performs diagnostic procedures. - Adaptsbehavior to the specific patient population, including but notlimited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to thepatient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to beperformed, requesting permissions and communication style. -Performs other related duties as assigned. Even though the weightlifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated LightWork: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significantdegree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time butentails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3)when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailingthe constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though theweight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stressand strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in anindustrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a workereven though the amount of force exerted is negligible. Dutiesperformed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid andtissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in anarea where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/orworks with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. Theincumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicablediseases. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting,there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardousmedications or hazardous waste within the environment throughreceipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing,administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste.
