Job Summary:
Oyate Health Center is an outpatient ambulatory clinic with a full range of services that provides for a population of approximately 22,000 Native Americans. The primary purpose of work is direct patient-relative care with adults and/or pediatrics with the goal of maximizing the patient relatives' functional abilities. The Occupational Therapist independently develops and implements an occupational therapy treatment program utilizing judgment to modify the treatment as a result of changing medical conditions.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for a high degree of professional competence, skill and judgment in assessment, planning and carrying out the full range of treatment modalities, patient education and discharge planning of a variety of outpatient situations. Treatment objectives can be complex and procedures involve application of highly specialized skills and knowledge.
- Performs professional work requiring the application of knowledge in the concepts, principles and practices of occupational therapy for the treatment or prevention of disability or disease.
- Provides evaluation and treatment including expanded functional exercise programs, assistive technology, orthotic and prosthetic training and management.
- Addresses pain control, restoration of function and meaningful activity, daily living skills, mobility issues, fitness and strength, balance and coordination, cognitive function, adaptive equipment, etc.
- Directs assistants and technicians coordinating care appropriately. Provides and assures quality patient care.
- Provides consultation to medical or clinical staff on matters pertaining to therapy and/or patient progress. Incumbent exercises tact, good judgment and persuasiveness when dealing with these individuals.
- Assists the supervisor and staff in all aspects of rehabilitation services, administrative tasks, and projects as assigned.
- Participates in clinical research efforts and assists/leads in specialty clinics.
- Demonstrates skill in use of personal computer and a variety of job-related software applications. Appropriately utilizes and manages the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Participates in quality assurance/performance improvement (QAPI) activities and chart reviews required.
- Provides formal and informal education and in-services to members of the medical staff, therapy, and others as requested. Provides training for therapy students and technicians.
- Mentor students on chart review, presentations, and treatment techniques.
Education/Experience/Certificates/Credentials
- Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy or Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy with (5) years of clinical experience or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy with (7) years of clinical experience.
- Current unrestricted state licensure to practice in any US State or Territory.
- Current BLS certification for health care providers.
