POSITION SUMMARY

Craig Hospital is seeking a skilled, compassionate, and dedicated Respiratory Therapist to deliver expert respiratory care within our specialized rehabilitation setting. This role goes beyond technical skill — you will be a vital member of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring each patient receives individualized, high-quality respiratory therapy aligned with the hospital’s standards and protocols. Your expertise will support diagnosis, treatment, and recovery for patients with complex cardiopulmonary needs, including those with spinal cord and brain injuries.

As a Respiratory Therapist at Craig, you’ll coordinate care delivery, operate advanced respiratory equipment, and provide life-sustaining interventions. Your clinical judgment, patient advocacy, and ability to respond quickly in emergencies will be instrumental in improving patient outcomes and fostering a healing environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver comprehensive respiratory care services based on established Respiratory Care Department policies and evidence-based protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Operate and troubleshoot a variety of respiratory equipment, including mechanical ventilators (invasive and non-invasive), aerosol generators, and oxygen delivery systems.
  • Monitor patient responses to therapy, adjusting interventions as necessary to optimize ventilation and oxygenation.
  • Conduct arterial blood gas sampling, EKG testing, spirometry, and non-invasive ventilation monitoring to assess patient status and guide treatment.
  • Provide airway clearance therapies such as suctioning, assisted cough techniques, chest physiotherapy, and related modalities tailored to patient needs.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including CODE Blue calls—administering CPR, intubating as necessary, and maintaining active ACLS certification.
  • Ensure patient safety and equipment functionality by regularly assessing ventilator settings, alarms, and clinical indicators.
  • Educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, medication administration, and equipment used to promote understanding and adherence.
  • Mentor and precept new respiratory care staff, nursing personnel, and students, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.
  • Assist with patient transport to diagnostic procedures and support physicians during bronchoscopy and other specialized interventions.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of all respiratory care activities, patient assessments, and therapy outcomes in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
  • Uphold patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times while promoting a respectful, inclusive environment.
