TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The Board of Education, upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, shall appoint the School Physical Therapist. The annual period of service shall be 190 days.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The school Physical Therapist develops implements and coordinates a physical therapy program within the schools; providing screening, evaluations and intervention services to students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Adhere to professional, ethical and legal standards of practice
Gather appropriate information from students, parents, guardians and other team members in regard to the student's functional motor performance in the school setting
Select, administer and interpret a variety of screening instruments and standardized measurement tools
Form partnerships with school staff and administration to promote an effective physical therapy plan of care for students in need
Provide physical therapy to students in accordance with the Georgia Physical Therapy Act
Examine and evaluate eligible students' strengths and needs to establish their ability to participate in meaningful school activities and routines with or without assistance
Adapt environments to facilitate student access and participation in the educational program
Function as a consultant to other school personnel, parents, guardians, and students to coordinate the delivery of physical therapy services
Participate in the IEP/504 process, including collaboratively determining the need for physical therapy as a related service ( IDEA) or as a reasonable accommodation ( 504)
Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students
Demonstrates appropriate consultative skills in parent, teacher and student conferences
Utilizes assigned technology to maintain required documentation of services rendered
Refer students to other related service personnel and to healthcare providers as appropriate
Serve as a liaison among school, medical personnel, and medical equipment vendors
Excellent oral and written communication skill; organization and time management
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: degree in physical therapy from an accredited program; licensed to practice physical therapy in the State of Georgia
EVALUATION: Performance of this job shall be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
