The School:
The Bay School is a non-profit, nonpublic school located in Santa Cruz, California serving students aged 5-22. It is part of the May Institute, a nationally recognized, award-winning organization that provides educational, rehabilitative, and behavioral healthcare services to individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. The Bay School employs the latest research findings to produce measurable and lasting improvements in the lives of students with autism. They provide services following an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) methodology. To establish and maintain a positive learning environment, we use high levels of consistency, individually selected and strategically used motivators, careful use of prompting procedures and systematic planning for generalization. our program strives to organize developmentally appropriate learning experiences that will lead to enduring changes in functional skills over time and across settings. Our ultimate goal is to facilitate the student's successful transition into public schools.
The Position:
The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for providing direct occupational therapy and active consultation services to students enrolled in The Bay School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate students using standardized, formal, and informal assessments and develop formal programs to address fine and gross motor, self-care, leisure, feeding, and related functional skills
- Participate in the development of Individualized Educational Plans and meetings
- Provide individual consultative services to students, families, and staff
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Participation in the development of IEP programming and meetings
- Experience working with individuals with behavioral challenges
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrate flexibility and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and other service providers
- Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Responsible, caring, eager to learn
Requirements
- OT licensure
- Previous experience with individuals with developmental disabilities in a school setting
