Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.
FLSA Status Non-Exempt Job Role SummaryThe Respiratory Care Practitioner provides respiratory care to inpatients with respect to acuity, age, and required treatment. This position is responsible for all professional requirements including licensure, attendance of meetings, annual education, and quarterly competencies. The Respiratory Care Practitioner proactively contributes to Eskenazi Healths mission: Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Administers all respiratory care as ordered by a physician
Delivers respiratory care via assessment, critical thinking, and monitoring while exercising multi-disciplinary communication
Provides accurate, complete, and timely documentation of all patient care administered
Complies with all organizational policies including state licensure, practice guidelines, required credentialing, and passing all required competencies
Complies with the AARC Statement of Ethics and Professional Conduct
Provides age appropriate respiratory care in all assigned areas
Participates in continuing education and in-services to remain current in respiratory care
Attends 75% of all departmental meetings
Serves as a resource to coworkers and all disciplines within the organization
Cleans and assembles respiratory care equipment utilized at Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital
Provides indicated education regarding respiratory care to patients and families
Submits accurate and complete equipment charges via the electronic medical record in coordination with accurate documentation
Graduate from an AMA approved program for Respiratory Care with a minimum of an Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy
Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Indiana
Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the NBRC; new graduates will be required to obtain the RRT credential within twelve (12) months from the date of graduation
Current ALS or ACLS, BLS, NRP, and PALS credentials
Ability to organize and prioritize duties
Ability to interpret and record data accurately
Ability to rapidly assess and respond to all situations
Ability to function effectively in stressful settings
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of cardiopulmonary anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology
Knowledge of respiratory care equipment and supplies
