2024-2025 School Based SLP Job - Sunbelt

Location: Schertz, Texas Metro Area
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday)

Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment and Evaluation : Conduct comprehensive speech and language assessments for students referred for services. Administer standardized tests, observe students in classroom settings, and consult with teachers and parents to gather information about students' communication abilities.

  2. Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Development : Collaborate with school-based teams to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with speech and language disorders. Ensure that IEP goals and objectives are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).

  3. Direct Therapy Services : Provide evidence-based speech and language therapy services to students with communication disorders. Develop and implement therapy plans targeting areas such as articulation, phonology, language comprehension, expressive language, fluency, and pragmatics.

  4. Progress Monitoring : Regularly monitor and document students' progress towards meeting IEP goals. Adjust therapy strategies and interventions as needed to maximize students' progress.

  5. Consultation and Collaboration : Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, administrators, and parents to support students' communication needs within the classroom and school environment. Provide recommendations for classroom accommodations and modifications to support students' access to the curriculum.

  6. Professional Development : Stay current with best practices, research findings, and trends in the field of speech-language pathology. Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.

  7. Documentation and Reporting : Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of assessment results, therapy sessions, progress reports, and communication with stakeholders. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations regarding special education documentation and reporting.

  8. Parent Education and Support : Provide guidance and support to parents/caregivers regarding strategies to facilitate their child's communication development at home. Conduct parent meetings to discuss students' progress, therapy strategies, and ways to support speech and language goals outside of the school setting.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Texas state licensure in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Experience working with school-aged children, preferably in a school-based setting.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing special education services, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
