Massage Therapist - PFCC Grant Funded

The Massage Therapist provides massage therapy to patients under the Palliative Care Program. The Massage Therapist is responsible for identifying, assessing, planning and implementing appropriate massage care plan for inpatient residents to improve muscle tone, circulation, range of motion and address physical symptoms related to their illness and or disease progression. Functions as an additional resource for other members of the palliative care team as needed via consultation and educational offerings. Supports the Agencys mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Uses evidence-based treatments/modalities to address patients needs and preferences.
  2. Demonstrates an understanding of illness and the potential complications and side effects of treatments
  3. Maintains a caseload and ensures accurate and timely individualized assessment, planning, implementation and documentation.
  4. Ensures each patient is assessed and that treatment given is evaluated using evidence-based practice, including improvement of muscle tone, circulation, range of motion, and physical symptoms related to their illness.
  5. Develops a plan of care in conjunction with patient and family.
  6. Acts professionally and is legally accountable for all aspects of work
  7. Monitors and reviews the effectiveness of the therapy given and modifies it as necessary to support patients treatment plan of care
  8. Discusses patient suitability to receive massage therapy treatment with the Palliative Care Program Manager and the Interdisciplinary Team, as needed.
  9. Participates in interdisciplinary case conferences and acts as a clinical resource for the team when needed.
  10. Communicates promptly with the Palliative Care Program Manager or designee as well as the multidisciplinary team as issues arise for patients, whilst being mindful of confidentiality issues
  11. Acts as the patients advocate in relation to Massage Therapy.
  12. Provides comfort care at end of life.
  13. Designs workshops and teaches basic massage and self-help techniques for staff, patients, and families.
  14. Aggregate data collection of service delivery for quality development and or research.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Formal education required:

Bachelors Degree required

Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Massage Therapy

Currently licensed as a Massage Therapist by the State of New York

Previous experience required:

  1. Minimum of 500 Hours of training plus a minimum 3 years of working with the medically fragile population.
  2. At least 1 year of clinical experience with pediatric population, preferably involving end of life care.
