Primary Responsibilities Audiological Evaluations: Conduct comprehensive assessments - including hearing and auditory processing evaluations - to identify and characterize varying degrees of deafness; Technology Management: Recommend, fit, program, and maintain hearing aids, FM systems, and other classroom amplification technologies; IEP Collaboration: Serve as a key member of IEP teams by developing goals, recommending accommodations, and clearly interpreting diagnostic findings for families and staff; Classroom Advocacy: Assess classroom acoustics, recommend noise-reduction strategies, and provide instructional support to enhance listening environments. Consultation & Training: Educate staff, students, and families on hearing loss, hearing technology, troubleshooting, and self-advocacy skills; Screening Programs: Implement, coordinate, and monitor school-wide hearing screening initiatives; Direct Intervention: Deliver audiological rehabilitation services in partnership with speech-language pathologists, teachers of the deaf, and other related service providers; Other duties as assigned or needed. Preferred Experience & Certifications Master's or Doctoral degree (Au.D.) in Audiology; A valid New York State license in Audiology; educational/teaching certification, preferred; Strong understanding of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other special education regulations; Demonstrates proficiency in pediatric assessment and school-based service delivery; Effective communication skills across diverse stakeholders (staff, administration, families, vendors); American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency preferred; Strong critical thinking, flexibility, and sound decision-making abilities; Proven success working autonomously and taking initiative with minimal supervision; Ability to successfully complete the ASL Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) within three years, meeting the proficiency level required by the school. NOTE: The School may also require employees in this classification to complete successful training in behavior management programs including but not limited to TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) which will be provided by St. Mary's School for the Deaf.
